Imaging Information Industrial(2013/1)
This is an article that was published in a professional journal with the title about two years ago, and I think it's so snappy and interesting to read it again now. Since I have the opportunity, I would like to post it in its entirety.
Appearance Inspection Consulting
At the recent Kansai Mechanical Components and Materials Technology Expo, we distributed a condensed version of the January 2003 issue of Image Information Industrial. Even after reading it over myself, I still find it to be an article with a sharp and snappy content. One of the manufacturers who saw the material said to me, "We are facing [...]...
Why can't a camera see the defect?
When defects are imaged by an image sensor or other means, are there many cases in which defects are clearly visible visually but not well captured in the image? Do you feel something different when you try different illuminators? A difference between the camera and the eye? [...].
Appearance Inspection Methods
The method of visual inspection is easy to understand if we consider whether the object is 1) stable or not, and 2) simple or not. If the object is stable, it can be inspected based on "whether it is the same as other objects. If the object is simple, it can be inspected "whether it is the same as it should be" which can be inferred from its appearance [...].
Crisis of "Japanese Quality
We need to rethink the way visual inspections are conducted in manufacturing. After investing resources and working hard to make a product, a trained visual inspector inspects it hard, finds minor flaws, and discards it as defective. Many of them have no functional problems.
DEFEAT K COMPANY
WHEN I TALK WITH PEOPLE IN THE MACHINE VISION INDUSTRY, I OFTEN HEAR "DEFEAT COMPANY K." IT IS TRUE THAT COMPANY K ENTERED THE MARKET ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO AND TOOK IT WITH THEM ALL AT ONCE. IT IS TRUE THAT K CORP. ENTERED THE MARKET ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO AND SEEMS TO HAVE TAKEN IT BY STORM. HOWEVER, I HAVE A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW. ・THEY HAVE MADE IT CLOSER TO THE PRICE RANGE DESIRED BY END-USERS [...].
Full inspection is required.
I think the important thing in automatic inspection is "full surface inspection". In the case of visual inspection, the entire surface of the product is somehow seen from the moment it is picked up. However, in the case of automatic inspection, only the surface imaged by the camera is inspected, and only the set items are inspected. What kind of terrible defects are found in other areas [...]?
After the 2014 Kansai Mechanical Components & Materials Technology Expo
The three-day exhibition has come to a successful conclusion. Thank you to everyone who visited our booth. To be honest, we were wondering if we would go a little more bang." But due to the problem of name recognition, the way we showcased our products, and the location of our booth, we felt that many people didn't notice our products.
The seriousness of the image shop!
In this issue of the FlexInspector-ROBO catalog, we have used the phrase "the seriousness of the image shop". We put various meanings and thoughts into this word. We will unveil it at this exhibition, and we hope that many people will see and feel [...].
Inspect all surfaces
Why are defective products leaked even though all products are inspected by the image processing system? The image processing system only judges the pre-defined points on the image captured by the camera. In visual inspection, we look at the product from various angles before we pick it up. And the whole surface is inspected unconsciously [...].
