For HAPPY Visual Inspection

I have been involved in the automation of visual inspection for more than 25 years. I believe the difficulty of this work can be summarized in the following three points.

  • The objects are all different. Every single item is unique. They are forever disparate because information is not shared due to confidentiality.
  • It is quicker for people to do it. We can't spend money on automation. We can't use things that are labor intensive or difficult.
  • Appearance inspections are sensory and subjective inspections. Neither the goal nor the target is clear.

It is no wonder that everyone has struggled and is still struggling.

The issue of manpower shortage has come to the forefront, and automation of visual inspections is really demanding results. The deception of double-checking with visual inspectors can no longer be used.

With the advent of AI, a great many companies are entering into the automation of visual inspection.
The need is certainly great. However, I want you to know the three points above.

It's hard to watch the field, strapped with labor shortages, talented engineers, and investors who have taken advantage of the need, rush in.
